Eline Flipse started to make documentaries in 1980. Since she has made many long documentaries and just as many mid-lenghts and short films. Her films were shown at many festivals all over the world and were several times awarded.
From the jury-report in Nyon, Visions du Reel:
“With mastery and admirable grace, Eline Flipse develops characters, tells a story, shows the responses of individuals to the great world events, integrates geographies and languages and also makes it possible to gain access to a contemporary musical language. The various elements are worked out with such intelligence that it seems as if it has always been that way. The viewer has the impression of being guided by a surprisingly lucid gaze. This film is not satisfied with just talking about music, it becomes a magnificent musical composition
Critic in NRC newspaper about Russian Travelers in Africa “Sometimes you think: now we know it, about all those Russians with their death wish and drinking problems. But then another documentary maker comes along who has managed to find new, unsuspected depths in the Russian mentality, and brings out variations on the hopelessness that have never been seen before. Such a person is filmmaker Eline Flipse. Russian Travelers in Africa is a beautiful film, to laugh out loud and cry to. »
